Germany’s Military Ambitions Halted by China’s Dominance Over Raw Materials
Amid global trade tensions, China has tightened its export controls on key raw materials, a move that could disrupt long-term supply dynamics and significantly impact Germany’s military and industrial sectors.
Kokcha News Agency: In the midst of escalating global trade tensions, China has updated its export controls on certain raw materials, a decision that could alter long-term supply dynamics. China controls approximately 90% of the world’s rare earth elements, which are critical for modern weaponry and advanced technologies.
China has tightened its export regulations, making government permits mandatory for key materials. As a result, deliveries to German companies have slowed or been completely halted.
Impact of the New Regulations:
Many German companies report having only a few weeks’ worth of raw materials left. Production stoppages are now a real possibility for defense manufacturers. Small and medium-sized businesses have been hit the hardest.
The German Ministry of Economic Affairs has expressed deep concern over the situation. Companies have been instructed to report shortages to the European Union to coordinate “diplomatic pressure” on China.
Experts warn that Germany must urgently diversify its sources of raw materials to mitigate the impact of China’s dominance.
