Al Jazeera Journalist Anas al-Sharif and Four Colleagues Killed in Israeli Attack on Gaza
Anas al-Sharif, a journalist for Al Jazeera, and four of his colleagues were killed in a targeted Israeli attack on a tent housing journalists in Gaza, marking another tragic loss for press freedom in the region.

Kokcha News: Al Jazeera has announced that its journalist, Anas al-Sharif, along with four colleagues, were killed in a targeted Israeli attack on a tent where journalists were staying in Gaza City. The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon near the main entrance of Al-Shifa Hospital, leaving seven people dead.
Among the victims were Mohammed Qureiq, a journalist for Al Jazeera, and three cameramen: Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Momen Aliawa.
Anas al-Sharif, a 28-year-old journalist, had recently posted a video reporting on the intense Israeli bombardment in eastern and southern Gaza.
The Israeli military claimed that al-Sharif was a leader of a Hamas group, but human rights defenders dismissed this claim as baseless and politically motivated.
Al Jazeera described the attack as “an attempt to silence independent voices in Gaza.” Media advocacy groups and UN experts had previously warned that al-Sharif’s life was at risk due to his reporting.
According to the Gaza Media Office, 237 journalists have been killed since the start of the war on October 7, 2023. The Committee to Protect Journalists has reported at least 186 journalist deaths.
This latest attack underscores the dangers faced by journalists in Gaza, who continue to risk their lives to report on the ongoing conflict. The international community has been urged to take immediate action to protect journalists and ensure press freedom in the region.
