Wildfires Continue to Rage in Spain; UNESCO World Heritage Site at Risk

The wildfires in Spain continue to spread uncontrollably, threatening the destruction of Las Médulas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kokcha News Agency: The wildfires that began in Spain several days ago remain uncontained, engulfing vast areas of nature and habitats. One of the areas at risk is Las Médulas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site now on the brink of devastation.

Las Médulas, a historic and cultural region in northwestern Spain, is famous for its ancient Roman gold mines, which have formed unique conical hills. The area is not only historically significant but also renowned for its unique natural landscapes.

Local authorities and firefighting teams are working tirelessly to control the blaze, but the hot, dry weather conditions, combined with strong winds, have made their efforts extremely challenging. So far, thousands of hectares of forests and grasslands have been burned, and many local residents have been forced to evacuate.

UNESCO has also expressed concern over the situation and called for urgent action to protect this World Heritage Site.
