Taliban Courts Sentence 24 People, Including 5 Women, to Flogging and Imprisonment

Kokcha News Agency – In recent days, Taliban courts in Sar-e Pul and Laghman provinces have handed down harsh sentences to 24 individuals, including five women, for various alleged crimes. The punishments, which include public flogging and imprisonment, have been carried out in public view, drawing widespread condemnation.

In Sar-e Pul, 14 people, including three women, were convicted of charges such as extramarital relations and theft. They were publicly flogged in the province’s main square, according to local sources.

In Laghman, ten people, including two women, were sentenced to flogging and imprisonment for charges of theft, drug use, and “immoral relations.” Eyewitnesses reported that the punishments were carried out in front of dozens of onlookers.

The Taliban has justified these punishments based on its interpretation of Islamic Sharia and internal laws. However, human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned such practices as inhumane and called for their immediate cessation in Afghanistan.
