Europe and North Africa Engulfed in Flames
Extreme heat has led to ongoing forest fires across Europe and North Africa, with Spain reporting three deaths and significant destruction in Greece, Syria, and Morocco.

Kokcha News Agency – Forest fires continue to rage across Europe and North Africa due to extreme heat, with Spain, Greece, Syria, and Morocco experiencing significant devastation.
In Spain, despite all efforts, fires have been burning uncontrollably for days. In the northern region of Galicia, thousands of hectares of land have been reduced to ashes, and a volunteer firefighter has lost his life, bringing the death toll to three. Over 6,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. Since the beginning of the year, 199 forest fires in Spain have burned approximately 100,000 hectares of land. The country has been experiencing temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for the past 10 days, and the extreme heat is expected to persist until Monday.
Flames Approach Patras
In neighboring Greece, a forest fire is advancing toward the port city of Patras. Around 600 firefighters and nearly 30 aircraft are working to extinguish the flames surrounding the city of 200,000 people. Reports indicate that the fire is beginning to come under control as winds have eased in the area, where 550 vehicles in the customs office parking lot were reduced to wreckage.
Syria and Morocco Also Burning
Extreme heat has also caused fires in Syria, with six separate blazes in the Latakia and Hama regions. In Morocco, fires near the northern city of Chefchaouen have turned 500 hectares of forest into ashes. Strong winds have made firefighting efforts difficult, and satellite images show the Derdara forest completely destroyed.
