“Stop the Trump Takeover”: Election Protests Sweep Across the U.S.

Kokcha News Agency – Protests have erupted across 34 U.S. states under the banner “Stop the Trump takeover,” as demonstrators oppose Republican plans to redraw election districts in Texas ahead of the 2026 midterms. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has officially endorsed the events, and several civil rights organizations have also pledged support.

In Austin, Texas, thousands gathered to protest the redistricting efforts, which critics argue are designed to give Republicans an unfair advantage in the state legislature. Similar demonstrations took place in major cities like New York, Chicago, Washington, Oakland, Minneapolis, and Las Vegas.

In New York, protesters gathered near the Trump International Hotel, chanting “Stand up, fight back.” President Donald Trump has fully backed the Republican redistricting plan in Texas, which aims to secure five additional seats in the State House of Representatives.

What Does the Plan Mean?
Republican members of the Texas House of Representatives are pushing to redraw the state’s congressional districts to gain five more seats in the State House before the 2026 midterms. The 150-member State House requires at least two-thirds of its members to be present to make decisions. Democrats, who are in the minority, cannot block the initiative through voting. To prevent the necessary quorum, at least 51 Democratic members have left the state.

Texas Senator John Cornyn has stated that FBI officials will be involved in locating the Democratic members who left the state.
