Severe Floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Claim 344 Lives; Rescue Operations Continue

Latest reports indicate that at least 344 people have lost their lives due to severe floods in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to AFP, around 2,000 rescue team members are still searching for missing individuals and those trapped under debris.

Residents of the affected areas have reported that the destruction of roads and bridges has hindered relief efforts. However, authorities have confirmed that rescue teams have reached flood-hit areas on foot. During the operation, a rescue helicopter crashed, killing five crew members.

The highest number of casualties has been reported in the districts of Buner, Bajaur, Swat, Shangla, Manshera, and Batgram near the Durand Line. The floods were triggered by heavy monsoon rains on Friday, and in addition to the fatalities, at least 120 people have been injured.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan has issued a warning about a new wave of rain from the Bay of Bengal, predicting that heavy rainfall and flooding will continue in the country for the next 25 days. The worst damage is expected in the cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
