New Summit Plan Emerges from White House Meeting: Putin and Zelensky to Meet
Following a historic meeting at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans for a trilateral summit involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed at achieving a ceasefire.

Kokcha News Agency – U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, with European leaders also in attendance. Before the historic meeting, Trump personally welcomed Zelensky at the entrance. After their bilateral talks, the leaders addressed the press, announcing that the next meeting would be trilateral and aimed at reaching a ceasefire.
Trump revealed that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky would take place soon, though the location has yet to be decided. “We could reach an agreement within one or two weeks,” Trump said.
This announcement comes after Trump’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, which did not yield concrete results. During the White House meeting, Trump also held a 40-minute discussion with Putin while the broader talks with European and NATO leaders were ongoing.
The British Financial Times reported that Ukraine has proposed a $100 billion arms deal to Trump in exchange for security guarantees. Meanwhile, AFP revealed that Putin has expressed readiness to meet with Zelensky, with Istanbul being considered as a potential location for the summit.
Experts suggest that Zelensky faces a delicate balancing act during his discussions with Trump, needing to protect Ukraine’s interests while avoiding alienating the U.S. president. The presence of European leaders is seen as a “balancing factor” in the negotiations.
This meeting marks the first direct engagement between Trump and Zelensky since a tense Oval Office encounter in February, where Trump accused Zelensky of “ingratitude.” However, in recent months, Trump has adopted a more critical stance toward Russia.
During the Alaska summit, Trump and Putin reportedly agreed on “strong security guarantees.” Zelensky’s visit to the White House is seen as a step toward de-escalating tensions and advancing peace talks.
Territorial Disputes Escalate
A European source told AFP that Trump has shown a “positive approach” to Russia’s territorial claims in Donbas, which Moscow has not yet fully seized. In return, Moscow may agree to “freeze” the current frontlines in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
