U.S. President Trump has declared a "public safety emergency" in Washington, D.C., to "ensure security and reduce crime," leading to the detention of 465 people by the National Guard.

Kokcha News Agency: U.S. President Trump has declared a “public safety emergency” in Washington, D.C., aimed at “ensuring security and reducing crime.” The National Guard has detained 465 individuals as part of the operation.

White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt provided details of the operations targeting “violent crimes” in the capital, where the National Guard has been deployed. Leavitt stated that, under the “public safety emergency,” 465 people have been detained so far, including 52 yesterday, among them a member of the MS-13 gang of Salvadoran origin.

Additionally, 48 homeless encampments set up in the capital’s streets have been removed. Leavitt emphasized that the operations will continue, with other detentions involving charges of knife attacks, murder, attempted murder, assaults on federal law enforcement officers, and aggravated assault.

Washington, D.C., has been on high alert since August 11, when President Trump declared the “public safety emergency” to “ensure security and reduce crime.” He announced that Washington police would be placed under federal control and that the National Guard would be deployed in the city.

The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) had already deployed 800 National Guard troops to the capital on August 14.
