Taliban Governors Hold Security Meeting in Kandahar

Kokcha News Agency – Sources in Kandahar province report that seven Taliban governors held a joint meeting in Kandahar on Saturday, 1st Sunbula, focusing on security, administrative, and organizational matters.

The meeting included governors from Kandahar, Balkh, Herat, Paktia, Kabul, Nangarhar, and Kunduz, all of whom are considered close associates of Taliban leader Mullah Haibatullah. The Kandahar governor’s press office stated that the discussions centered on reviewing projects, civil and military structures, and the security situation in Afghanistan’s border provinces.

This meeting comes as the Taliban faces a severe economic crisis and dwindling financial resources. The group’s recent decision to cut 20% of government employees, particularly in security agencies, has sparked internal disagreements and raised concerns among Taliban fighters.

Analysts suggest that the focus on security coordination by border governors may indicate the Taliban’s growing concerns about developments along Afghanistan’s borders with neighboring countries.
