Trump and Vance Label Biden Incompetent During Kabul Anniversary Memorial
President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance marked the fourth anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul, condemning President Joe Biden’s “incompetence” during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal and pledging to honor the memory of the fallen U.S. troops.

Kokcha News Agency: On Monday, August 25, President Donald Trump held a White House ceremony to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the deadly Abbey Gate bombing at Kabul airport, which claimed the lives of 13 American service members and over 170 Afghan civilians during the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
Addressing the families of the fallen, Trump described the incident as “the most shameful day in American history” and vowed that such a tragedy would never happen again. He emphasized that the U.S. had learned hard lessons from the withdrawal and promised to continue honoring the sacrifices of the troops.
Vice President J.D. Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth joined Trump at the ceremony. Vance directly blamed former President Joe Biden for the failures that led to the loss of lives, stating, “Today, we correct that injustice.”
During the event, Trump signed an official proclamation designating August 26 as a day of remembrance for the Abbey Gate victims. The Abbey Gate suicide bombing, which occurred on August 26, 2021, killed 11 Marines, one Army soldier, and one Navy medic, marking one of the deadliest moments of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The ceremony underscored how the Afghanistan withdrawal remains a potent symbol in U.S. political discourse, serving both as a reminder of military sacrifice and as a critique of Biden’s leadership. By formally enshrining the anniversary as a day of remembrance, Trump not only seeks to honor the fallen but also reinforces his message that Biden’s handling of the withdrawal was a historic failure.
