Martin Parsons: UK’s Plan to Negotiate with the Taliban is Dangerous

Martin Parsons, a British author and former aid worker in Afghanistan, has labeled Nigel Farage, leader of the UK’s Reform Party, plan to negotiate with the Taliban as a dangerous form of surrender, warning that such a move could be seen as a political reward for the Taliban.

Kokcha News Agency: Martin Parsons, a British author and former aid worker in Afghanistan, has criticized Nigel Farage’s proposal for the UK to negotiate with the Taliban, describing it as dangerous in an analysis published by a British political website. Parsons characterized the Taliban as a jihadist group aiming to impose Islamic Sharia law globally and warned that negotiations with them by the UK could be perceived as a political reward.

In his analysis, Parsons emphasized that the Taliban would seek recognition from the UK and demand financial aid during such negotiations. Drawing parallels to history, he stated, “Just as Britain could not appease the Nazis in the 1930s, it cannot appease the Taliban today.”

He added, “I have previously explained why the West cannot negotiate with the Taliban. In the 1990s, when I worked as an aid worker in Afghanistan, I was forced to negotiate with Taliban officials to implement humanitarian projects. However, negotiations by NGOs to provide humanitarian aid are worlds apart from negotiations by governments with a terrorist group, even if they are now in power. This is a group that brutally tortures and executes its own people and seeks to spread its form of governance worldwide.”

Parsons also warned that Taliban leaders know that if they do not secure these concessions soon, despite their oppressive tactics, the people will eventually rise against them, and they will lose power.

This analysis was published in response to Nigel Farage’s proposal, in which he called for dialogue with the Taliban and the repatriation of Afghan refugees.
