Son of Journalist Killed by Israel: “He Worked Tirelessly to Bring the Truth to the World”
Kokcha News Agency: Ahmed al-Mısri, the son of Reuters photojournalist Hüsam al-Mısri, who was killed in an Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, spoke about his father’s dedication to journalism. Hüsam al-Mısri was among 20 Palestinians, including 5 journalists and 5 medical workers, killed in a double attack on the hospital on August 25.
Ahmed, visibly emotional while looking at his father’s burned camera, said, “My father was deeply passionate about his work. Since the war began on October 7, 2023, he hadn’t seen me, my mother, or my siblings. He worked tirelessly to bring the truth to the world. His martyrdom has left me shattered; I’ve lost my support.”
Ahmed also shared that his father had been trying to arrange treatment for his cancer-stricken mother outside Gaza but passed away before he could. “When he left, our lives fell apart. My mother can no longer walk. There are no medicines in Gaza—how can I find them, how can I provide for her?” he lamented.
Despite the devastation, Ahmed vowed to carry on his father’s legacy. Pointing to the burned camera, he said, “That camera is gone, but a new one will come. We will follow in his footsteps. He was a kind-hearted man known by everyone, and his name will not be forgotten.”
The Israeli military targeted Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis with two consecutive attacks. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 20 Palestinians, including 5 journalists and 5 medical workers, were killed in the attacks.
The first attack was followed by a second strike while rescue operations were ongoing, with live cameras capturing the horrifying moments. The images sparked outrage from press organizations and the international community.
The Israeli military, responsible for the deaths of 246 journalists in Gaza, claimed responsibility for the attack but denied intentionally targeting journalists. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the incident a “tragic accident.”
Among those killed were Reuters photojournalist Hüsam al-Mısri, Al Jazeera cameraman Muhammad Salama, journalist Maryam Abu Daqqa of Independent Arabia and AP, journalist Muaz Abu Taha of NBC News, and journalist Ahmed Abu Aziz.
