Protests in Sweden Against Genocide in Gaza
Hundreds of people gathered in Stockholm, Sweden, to protest Israel's actions in Gaza, including the targeting of journalists and the imposition of starvation on the Palestinian population.
Kokcha News Agency: In the Swedish capital of Stockholm, hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets to protest what they called a “genocide” in Gaza, condemning Israel’s actions, including the targeting of journalists and the blockade that has led to widespread hunger. The protest, organized by several civil society organizations, took place at Odenplan Square, where participants carried symbolic coffins and photographs of journalists killed in Israeli attacks on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on August 25.
Protesters held banners with slogans such as “Children and civilians in Palestine are dying of hunger,” “Freedom for Palestine, no to Netanyahu and Trump’s plan,” “Journalism is not a crime,” “Journalists are not targets,” and “Stop killing journalists.” The demonstration later moved to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where participants continued to voice their demands.
Jonas Serneholt, a Swedish journalist and activist who has been participating in weekly protests against Israel in Stockholm for nearly two years, spoke at the event. Despite being visually impaired, Serneholt has been a consistent voice in the movement. He described the situation in Palestine as “ethnic cleansing and genocide,” condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for deliberately targeting healthcare workers and journalists who report on the suffering in the region.
Serneholt stated, “Netanyahu’s deliberate killing of journalists, my colleagues, is unacceptable. There are no words to describe this; at the very least, it is fascism.”
