IAEA: Facility at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Hit by Shelling
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced that a facility at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was hit by artillery fire and drone attacks, raising concerns over nuclear safety.

Kokcha News Agency reports that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that a facility at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was hit by artillery fire and drone attacks. According to the IAEA, the plant’s staff informed the agency’s on-site team that the facility was targeted starting at 9:00 AM local time.
The IAEA team also reported hearing military activity in the area around the same time. The agency noted that smoke was seen rising from a facility located approximately 1,200 meters from the nuclear plant.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi issued a warning, stating, “Any attack near a nuclear power plant, regardless of its target, poses potential risks to nuclear safety and must be prevented.”
