Iran Warns of Significant Damage at Fordow Nuclear Facility Following U.S. Airstrike
According to reports, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Arakçi has stated that the damage caused by the U.S. airstrike on the Fordow nuclear site is extensive and serious, with the facility currently unusable, and emphasized ongoing investigations into the incident.
In an interview with CBS News, Abbas Arakçi provided an update on the current status of the Fordow Nuclear Facility, which was targeted by a U.S. attack. He said, “As far as I know, no one has definitive information about what exactly happened. The damage appears to be very large and serious. The Iran Atomic Energy Organization is still investigating, and results will be shared with the government later.”
Regarding claims from U.S. President Donald Trump that Iran’s nuclear facilities have been completely destroyed, Arakçi responded, “It seems the damage is very severe and serious. I reiterate, I don’t have exact information. But, for now, it is understood that the facilities are inoperable. We are assessing how long it will take to restore or if they are entirely unusable.”
He also referenced IAEA Director Rafael Grossi’s remarks that Iran might restart uranium enrichment within the next few months, stating, “Grossi’s assessment is based on the reality that Iran’s enrichment technology and knowledge are domestic and not externally acquired, so it cannot be destroyed by bombing.”
Arakçi commented on Iran’s longstanding efforts to develop its enrichment industry, noting, “We have invested over 20 years into our enrichment program, enduring severe sanctions, assassinations of scientists, and sabotage. Despite all this, we have maintained that our program remains peaceful. We previously reached a nuclear agreement, which was recognized as a diplomatic success. But the U.S. exited from it. We have patiently waited, and for the Iranian people, enrichment is a matter of pride. We fought for it, especially after enduring a 12-day war over this issue.”
On Iran’s nuclear ambitions, he emphasized, “No one can dismiss our nuclear industry, as it is a source of national pride. We are committed to protecting it. Our nuclear program is peaceful, and our Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has issued a fatwa declaring nuclear weapons haram. We hope the world, especially the West, understands and accepts Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology, which the Iranian people will never abandon.”
