Hundreds Killed in Devastating Landslide in Sudan
Hundreds of people have lost their lives in a massive landslide that struck the Jebel Marra region in Central Darfur, Sudan. The Sudanese Sovereignty Council confirmed the tragic incident, attributing it to heavy rainfall that triggered the disaster.

According to Kokcha News Agency, the Sudanese Sovereignty Council announced that hundreds of people were killed in a landslide in the Jebel Marra region of Central Darfur. The Council expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Sudan, stating, “We mourn the innocent citizens who lost their lives due to the landslide caused by heavy rainfall in the region.”
The Council also emphasized that all available resources would be mobilized to support those affected by the disaster.
Minni Arko Minawi, the head of the Darfur region, described the tragedy in Tirsin village as a “humanitarian catastrophe that transcends the borders of the region.” He called for urgent international aid to assist in recovering bodies and supporting survivors.
The civil authority affiliated with the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement-Abdul Wahid Nur, which controls the area, reported that the landslide, caused by heavy rains, completely destroyed Tirsin village. Out of more than 1,000 residents, only one person survived.
The statement from the civil authority read, “We are following the situation in Tirsin village with deep sorrow and concern. The heavy rains in the last week of August caused massive and destructive landslides. Initial reports indicate that the entire village has been wiped out.”
Sudan experiences heavy rainfall and flooding between July and October each year, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives and significant damage to homes and agricultural land.
