Kokcha News Agency – The devastating earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on August 31 has severely impacted the education system in Kunar province. According to Mohibullah Haidari, the Director of Education for Kunar province, 157,074 students have been deprived of education, and 306 schools have been damaged.
Haidari, speaking to Tolo News, revealed that the earthquake claimed the lives of 391 students and 3 teachers, while 760 students and 20 teachers were injured. The education directorate also reported that 53 schools were completely destroyed, and 253 schools were partially damaged.
The academic year in Kunar began on September 6, but thousands of students in earthquake-affected areas have been unable to resume their studies.
Casualties and Damage
The 6.0 magnitude earthquake, which occurred near the Pakistan border, has been one of the deadliest in recent years, with 2,205 people killed and 3,640 injured. Kunar province, located in the eastern part of Afghanistan, bore the brunt of the disaster.
