Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained an Azerbaijani citizen in the Stavropol region, accusing him of preparing terrorist attacks targeting law enforcement and transportation infrastructure.

Kokcha News Agency – The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained an Azerbaijani national in the Stavropol region on suspicion of preparing terrorist attacks. According to the FSB, the suspect was allegedly involved with a banned Ukrainian terrorist organization and had conducted reconnaissance on law enforcement buildings and transportation infrastructure in Yessentuki and Stavropol.

The FSB stated that the suspect had “received instructions from the organization” and had carried out detailed reconnaissance in several areas where sabotage and terrorist acts were planned.

Background Tensions
This incident comes amid rising tensions between Russia and Azerbaijan. On June 27, Russian security forces raided homes in Yekaterinburg where Azerbaijanis were residing, resulting in the deaths of two Azerbaijanis and several injuries.

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that six people were detained during the operation, accusing them of involvement in multiple murders. Those detained included both Russian and Azerbaijani citizens, and a court in Yekaterinburg ordered their detention until October 19.
