Nepal’s Gen Z Protests Escalate: Parliament Set Ablaze, 20 Killed in Clashes with Police

Amid escalating tensions in Nepal, the Nepalese army and civil bureaucracy have called for a peaceful resolution as protesters stormed the parliament, vandalized official buildings, and set political offices on fire, according to reports.

Kokcha News Agency: In a dramatic escalation of political unrest in Nepal, protesters stormed the parliament building, vandalized official government structures, and set fire to political offices. The Nepalese army and civil bureaucracy have issued calls for calm and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The protests, which have been growing in intensity over recent weeks, reflect widespread public dissatisfaction with the current political leadership and governance. Demonstrators are demanding accountability and reforms, with tensions reaching a boiling point as they breached security barriers and entered the parliament premises.

Nepal is reeling from widespread unrest as Gen Z-led protests against social media bans and government corruption escalated into violent confrontations with police. The clashes resulted in the deaths of 20 young protesters, according to reports.

The protests reached a boiling point when demonstrators stormed the parliament buildings, setting them ablaze, and targeted the homes of government officials. Several cabinet ministers sustained injuries during the attacks.

In a bid to quell the unrest, Prime Minister Sharma Oli lifted the social media ban, but the move came too late to pacify the enraged protesters. An aide confirmed that PM Oli has since resigned amid the escalating crisis.

The protests, which began as a response to perceived government corruption and restrictions on social media, have now plunged the country into chaos. The youth-led movement has highlighted deep-seated frustrations with the political establishment, demanding accountability and systemic reforms.

Authorities are now working to restore order, with the army and police deployed to key locations across the capital. The civil bureaucracy has urged all parties to engage in dialogue to avoid further violence and instability.
