European Trio Warns Iran: Snapback Extension Conditional on Concrete Actions

France, Germany, and the UK have warned Iran that any extension of the Snapback mechanism must be accompanied by tangible actions in its agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

France, Germany, and the UK issued a joint statement on Wednesday, warning Iran that if Tehran seeks an extension of the Snapback mechanism, it must demonstrate concrete actions in its agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The three European powers stated, “It is not enough for Iran to promise for tomorrow; we need to see evidence today.”

They highlighted that since mid-June, the IAEA has had “near-zero” monitoring of Iran’s nuclear activities, with thousands of kilograms of uranium unverified and no access to a new site in Isfahan. The trio accused Iran of “obscuring” the status and location of these materials from the international community.

The statement added, “It is now Iran’s responsibility to take swift and concrete steps to show that it is serious about finding a diplomatic solution and meaningfully engage with our proposal, which will remain on the table for 30 days before the Snapback mechanism is triggered.”
