Turkey Launches Call for Development of Indigenous Nuclear Reactor

Turkey has initiated a call for the development of a domestic nuclear reactor, aiming to enhance energy security, reduce dependency on foreign technology, and contribute to its net-zero emissions target.

ISTANBUL (Kokcha.News) —** Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, announced the launch of the “Indigenous Nuclear Reactor Development Call,” marking a significant step in the country’s nuclear energy ambitions. The initiative aims to develop high-tech nuclear reactors using domestic production capabilities, with contributions from institutions such as TENMAK, TÜBİTAK, and Turkish universities.

In a statement on his social media account, Kacır emphasized that the project is part of Turkey’s National Technology Move, which seeks to meet the country’s high energy demands with local, carbon-free, and uninterrupted solutions. He stated, “With this call, we aim to strengthen our energy security, reduce external dependency, and contribute to our net-zero emissions target by developing advanced nuclear reactors with domestic capabilities.”

The call for proposals is open until December 31, 2025, and applications can be submitted via the official website http://rip.sanayi.gov.tr.

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz also highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that Turkey is determined to extend the success achieved in the defense industry to new areas such as energy technologies and health industries. Yılmaz noted that every step taken in local and clean energy not only supports environmental sustainability but also reduces the current account deficit, contributing to macroeconomic stability.

In addition to the nuclear reactor initiative, Kacır announced that the number of technoparks in Turkey has reached 113, following the establishment of three new technology development zones in Istanbul, Alanya, and Amasya. These technoparks, which host nearly 12,000 technology startups, continue to play a crucial role in Turkey’s innovation-driven development.
