Germany Plans to Deport More Afghan Refugees, Negotiates with Taliban

Germany is reportedly planning to deport more Afghan refugees labeled as "criminals" and is in secret talks with the Taliban to facilitate the process, according to German newspaper *Bild*.

BERLIN (Kokcha.News) —** Germany is intensifying efforts to deport a larger number of Afghan refugees deemed “criminals” back to Afghanistan. According to the German newspaper *Bild*, the German Interior Ministry is planning to send a delegation to Kabul to negotiate the process with the Taliban.

The report states that in early September, a German delegation met with the Taliban in Qatar to establish a systematic mechanism for the deportation of Afghan refugees classified as criminals. Now, with Qatar’s mediation, Germany is preparing to send representatives to Kabul to continue these negotiations.

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, Germany has deported Afghan refugees twice: once in the fall of 2024, when 28 individuals were sent back, and again in July of this year, when 81 “dangerous criminals” were deported.

The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has previously stated that around 11,500 Afghans in Germany are at risk of deportation. However, human rights organizations and refugee advocacy groups have called for a halt to the deportations, arguing that returning refugees to Afghanistan under Taliban rule violates international law due to the risk of torture and inhumane treatment.

According to *Bild*, the German Interior Ministry is preparing a plan to deport more individuals to Afghanistan, aiming to make the process more systematic, extensive, and easier than before. Germany is also considering using regular flights instead of charter flights for future deportations.

Neither the German government nor the Taliban has officially commented on these developments.
