52 European MPs from 15 Countries Demand Israel’s Exclusion from Eurovision

Fifty-two Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from 15 countries have sent a letter to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), urging Israel’s exclusion from the Eurovision Song Contest next year. The move comes amid growing criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza and follows similar calls from countries like Iceland, Ireland, and Spain.

Kokcha News Agency:In a significant development, 52 MEPs from 15 European Union countries have formally requested the EBU to ban Israel from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest. The letter, initiated by left-leaning parties in the European Parliament, draws parallels to Russia’s exclusion from the competition in 2022 following its invasion of Ukraine.

The MEPs argue that Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza, which have been labeled as war crimes and genocide by international bodies, should disqualify it from participating in the event. They emphasized that allowing Israel to compete would contradict the EU’s principles and values and could be seen as condoning the alleged genocide.

The letter comes after several countries, including Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain, threatened to boycott the 2026 Eurovision if Israel is not excluded. These countries have expressed their solidarity with Palestine and condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is currently investigating Israel for alleged war crimes and genocide in the Gaza Strip. The MEPs’ letter highlights the urgency of taking a moral stance against Israel’s participation in international cultural events like Eurovision.
