Colombian President: Those Responsible for Genocide Must Not Walk Free
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, addressing the 80th United Nations General Assembly, condemned the genocide in Gaza and called for global action, stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others responsible for the atrocities must not be allowed to walk freely in the U.S. and Europe.

Kokcha News Agency: Colombian President Gustavo Petro delivered a passionate speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, denouncing the ongoing genocide in Gaza and calling for immediate international intervention. Petro emphasized that humanity can no longer tolerate the atrocities in Gaza, and those responsible, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, must not be allowed to move freely in the U.S. and Europe.
Petro argued that diplomacy has failed to stop the genocide in Gaza and called for a united effort by countries that reject the atrocities to liberate Palestine. He stated, “There is no superior race, nor a chosen people of God. God’s chosen people are all of humanity. The UN must act differently and humanely, first and foremost, to stop the genocide in Gaza.”
The Colombian president also criticized the U.S. for vetoing a Gaza ceasefire resolution, stating, “As long as missiles continue to tear apart the bodies of innocent babies and children in Palestine every second, we will not stop speaking out and insisting. Every veto in the UN Security Council leads to the death of more children. Is the person who vetoed not a mother? Not a father? Or are they a robot? Because whoever vetoes this is heartless.”
Petro also took aim at U.S. President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, accusing him of being complicit in the genocide. “Trump not only allows missiles to fall on young people in the Caribbean, not only imprisons and chains immigrants, but also turns a blind eye to missiles being dropped on women, children, young people, and the elderly in Gaza. Thus, he becomes an accomplice to genocide, and this must be shouted repeatedly,” Petro said.
The Colombian president further criticized the U.S. military presence in the Caribbean, stating that the same horrors witnessed in Palestine could occur in the region. He highlighted the deaths of 17 unarmed young people in missile attacks in the Caribbean Sea and the persecution of millions of immigrants, drawing parallels to the violence in Gaza.
Petro also addressed the climate crisis, arguing that migration is being used as an excuse to avoid taking action against climate change. He called for a reduction in coal and oil consumption and criticized the narrative that missiles in the Caribbean are aimed at stopping drug trafficking, calling it a “lie.”
The Colombian president concluded by asserting that the market cannot solve the climate crisis because it is the very cause of the crisis. “The crisis was created by capitalism, an unequal structure in human relations where more must be produced so that the boss can sell more. Produce more, sell more, earn more, and use more coal and oil. So the choice is: capitalism or life? Greed or life? Barbarism or global democracy?” Petro said.
