Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in New York to protest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attendance at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide.
Kokcha News Agency: In New York City, thousands of Palestinian supporters rallied against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is in the U.S. for the 80th UN General Assembly.
The protesters, who gathered in Times Square and marched towards the UN headquarters, chanted slogans like “Free Palestine, Free Gaza.” A small group of pro-Israel counter-protesters also appeared, but the overwhelming majority of the demonstration was in support of Palestine.
The protesters criticized Netanyahu’s visit to New York, especially given the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant against him for alleged war crimes in Gaza. Some demonstrators carried a mock prison uniform with the words “War Criminal Netanyahu” written on it, symbolizing their demand for accountability.
The demonstrations also highlighted the upcoming meeting between Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, with protesters calling for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the war in Gaza, and a lasting peace in the region.
Netanyahu’s UN Speech:
During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu faced a largely empty hall as several foreign delegations walked out in protest. Some delegates chanted “Free Palestine” as they exited, while UN security remained on high alert throughout his address.
