Largest Mass Resignation Event in U.S. History: 100,000 Federal Employees May Resign
Over 100,000 U.S. federal employees are expected to formally resign on Tuesday, marking what could be the largest mass resignation event in the country’s history, as part of the Trump administration’s plan to significantly reduce the federal workforce.

Kokcha News Agency: In what could become the largest mass resignation event in U.S. history, more than 100,000 federal employees are preparing to resign on Tuesday. This unprecedented move is part of the Trump administration’s broader strategy to drastically cut the federal workforce.
According to a report by The Guardian, as Congress faces a Tuesday deadline to pass a budget or risk a government shutdown, the White House has instructed federal agencies to prepare for mass layoffs in the event of a partisan impasse.
Employees who are preparing to leave the government have described months of “fear and intimidation” that left them with no choice but to resign.
President Donald Trump, in an interview with NBC News on Sunday, warned of widespread layoffs if the federal government shuts down this week, stating, “We will permanently downsize many of the people we can. I’d prefer not to do it.”
The White House has repeatedly warned that thousands of government jobs are at risk if the government shuts down at midnight on Tuesday.
The Trump administration has informed federal agencies to prepare for mass layoffs if Congress fails to reach an agreement to prevent a shutdown. If the White House follows through on its threat, it would mark a significant shift in policy, as federal employees are typically placed on furlough in such situations.
For example, during the full government shutdown in 2013, approximately 850,000 employees were furloughed, according to the Federal Budget Committee.
The warning of potential mass layoffs significantly increases the pressure on Congress to avoid a shutdown. However, with less than three days remaining before the budget deadline, lawmakers remain divided in their negotiations, and the likelihood of a government shutdown is increasing.
