Former Afghan Presidential Spokesperson Criticizes India for Hosting Taliban Foreign Minister

Sediq Sediqqi, the former spokesperson for the Afghan presidency, has criticized India for hosting the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, stating that the world’s largest democracy is now standing alongside one of the most oppressive and repressive regimes.

In response to the visit of the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to India, Sediq Sediqqi wrote on X that the world’s largest democracy is aligning itself with one of the most authoritarian and repressive regimes. He added that the instrumental use of “terrorists” to advance regional interests has become a norm in regional politics.

Sediqqi criticized New Delhi for hosting Muttaqi, stating that this move continues a flawed cycle that has kept Afghanistan embroiled in war for decades.

The Taliban’s Foreign Minister traveled to India for a six-day visit with the approval of the United Nations Security Council. During his visit, he met and held talks with India’s Foreign Minister.

India’s Foreign Minister announced that New Delhi would upgrade its diplomatic mission in Kabul to the level of an embassy.

This comes after India’s diplomatic presence in Kabul had been reduced to a “technical mission” following the Taliban’s return to power.
