During a press conference at the White House, President Trump announced that he had a phone conversation with Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Trump emphasized that Machado was exceptionally kind to him during their call, quoting her as saying, “I accept this award in your honor because you truly deserved it.”

Trump expressed his appreciation for Machado’s gesture, calling it “a very nice move.” He humorously added, “I didn’t say, ‘Then give me the award,’ but maybe she could have.”

Following her win, Machado took to the U.S.-based social media platform X to make a statement, highlighting that the award honors the struggle of the Venezuelan people. She expressed her gratitude to Trump and the American people, acknowledging them as key allies in the fight for freedom and democracy. Machado stated, “I dedicate this award to the suffering people of Venezuela and to Trump for his unwavering support of our cause.”

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Maria Corina Machado for her relentless efforts in defending democratic rights in Venezuela.
