Trump Hopes for “Good Meeting” with China’s Xi During Asia Tour
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as he embarked on a five-day Asia tour covering Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.

Before departing the White House, Trump told reporters he expects a productive discussion with Xi, particularly on trade, tariffs, and Taiwan. “We have a lot to discuss, and so does he. I think it will be a good meeting,” he said.
The U.S. president also criticized Canada, accusing it of playing “a dirty game” in trade negotiations and stating he has no immediate plans to meet with Canadian officials.
- Malaysia (Oct 26): Trump will attend a signing ceremony for a Thailand-Cambodia border agreement and meet PM Anwar Ibrahim.
- Japan (Oct 28): Talks with newly elected PM Yoshihide Suga aim to reinforce U.S.-Japan alliances amid tensions with China and North Korea.
- South Korea (Oct 30): Participation in the APEC Summit in Busan, with multilateral leader engagements.
- China (Oct 30): The pivotal bilateral with Xi, closely watched for progress on trade disputes.
The meeting comes amid ongoing U.S.-China economic rivalry, with markets and policymakers keenly awaiting outcomes. Previous tariff wars have disrupted diplomatic schedules.
