According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Tehran City Council Chairman Mehdi Chamran spoke at a city council meeting.
Chamran stated, “22% of air pollution in Tehran is related to motorcycles. Converting motorcycles to electric will be effective in reducing pollution and increasing safety.”
In a statement made in April, Deputy Head of the Traffic Coordination Department of Iran’s General Directorate of Security, Mohammad Baqer Selimi, noted that there are over 4 million motorcycles in the capital Tehran, 92% of which are old models, and many lack traffic registration.
Due to air pollution, it was announced that schools in Tehran would switch to remote learning today and tomorrow.
