Pakistan’s Deputy PM Ishaq Dar Calls for Action Against Militant Groups in Afghanistan

Kokcha News Agency reports that Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, stated on Friday that Afghanistan’s stability is crucial to Pakistan’s own security. Addressing a gathering organized by the Pakistani community in Kuala Lumpur, Dar said, “The development of Afghanistan will benefit us. We support it. Its security is essential for our security.”

Dar acknowledged the diplomatic disconnect between Islamabad and Kabul, noting that there have been no high-level meetings or formal diplomatic relations with the Taliban government, officially known as the Islamic Emirate. Despite these limitations, he revealed he had taken a bold step towards engagement, even while being aware of serious security concerns. “I took a very big step despite knowing that TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) has fled there in large numbers,” he remarked.

He called on the Afghan authorities to act decisively, saying, “We urge them to handle these factions and eliminate them.” Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of being a base for terrorist attacks; however, the Taliban leadership has denied these claims, asserting that insecurity remains an internal matter of Pakistan.
