Iran to Purchase 50 Sukhoi Su-57 Fighter Jets from Russia Following Delivery of Su-35s

In a major boost to its air defense capabilities, Iran is set to sign a deal with Russia to acquire 50 Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter jets, following the delivery of three squadrons of Su-35s.

Kokcha News Agency: Iran is reportedly preparing to finalize a significant defense agreement with Russia to purchase 50 Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter jets. This move comes after Iran is expected to receive three squadrons of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets from Russia, marking a major upgrade to Iran’s air force capabilities.

The Sukhoi Su-57, Russia’s most advanced fifth-generation stealth fighter, is designed for air superiority and attack missions, featuring advanced avionics, stealth technology, and supercruise capabilities. The acquisition of these jets would significantly enhance Iran’s ability to counter potential threats in the region, particularly from advanced air forces like those of the United States and Israel.

The deal is seen as part of Iran’s broader strategy to modernize its military amid ongoing tensions with Western powers and regional rivals. The delivery of the Su-35s, which are fourth-generation++ fighters, is expected to be completed soon, paving the way for the Su-57 agreement.

This potential arms deal underscores the deepening military and strategic ties between Iran and Russia, as both nations face increasing pressure from Western sanctions and geopolitical challenges. The Su-57 acquisition would make Iran one of the few countries outside Russia to operate this advanced fighter jet, further solidifying its position as a key player in the region.
