Kokcha News Agency – Israel has submitted its third proposal for the deployment of its forces in Gaza during a proposed 60-day ceasefire. The plan includes greater flexibility in the positioning of Israeli troops along the Gaza-Egypt border, specifically between the Morag axis and the Philadelphia axis, according to Sky News Arabia.
The main points of contention between Israel and Hamas remain the boundaries of the Israeli military’s withdrawal during the ceasefire and the distribution of humanitarian aid within Gaza. Under the new proposal, Israel has agreed to reduce its military presence to a two-kilometer-wide buffer zone along the southern border near Rafah.
Reports also indicate that Israel is prepared to withdraw a larger number of its troops from Gaza during the 60-day ceasefire. Previously, Israel had insisted on maintaining its forces in a relatively wide area, including a three-kilometer-wide buffer zone along the border with Egypt near Rafah, as well as the Morag axis, which separates Rafah from Khan Younis. However, Hamas has demanded that Israeli forces return to the positions they held during the previous ceasefire.
Israel’s insistence on maintaining a military presence in southern Gaza is linked to the Netanyahu government’s plans to establish a refugee camp in the area that would house hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Critics argue that this plan could be a precursor to the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.
