27% of Germans Believe Their Country Could Face Military Attack in Next 5 Years

🇩🇪 German employers concerned about workforce competition amid military recruitment plans.

Kokcha News Agency– A survey conducted in Germany has found that 27% of respondents believe it is very or fairly likely that Germany could face a military attack within the next five years. The poll, conducted by the Forsa Institute for Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, also revealed that only 16% of Germans would “definitely” take up arms to defend their country, while 22% said they would “probably” do so.

In contrast, a clear majority of 59% stated they would “probably not” or “definitely not” be willing to defend Germany with weapons in the event of a military attack. This figure rises to 72% among women.

The survey, which included over 1,000 participants, also highlighted differing views on Germany’s role within NATO. While 27% of respondents expressed concerns about a potential military threat to Germany, 59% believe that Germany should provide military assistance to another NATO member if attacked, in line with its alliance obligations.

The findings come amid growing geopolitical tensions in Europe, particularly in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has heightened concerns about regional security and defense preparedness across the continent.
