Hezbollah Criticizes Lebanese Government’s Decision to Collect Weapons, Calls It a “Major Mistake”

Hezbollah has condemned the Lebanese government’s decision to collect weapons, calling it a "major mistake" that would weaken Lebanon’s resistance against Israel. The group declared the decision "null and void."

Kokcha News Agency – Hezbollah has strongly criticized the Lebanese government’s decision to collect weapons, arguing that it would strip Lebanon of its resistance capabilities against Israel and calling the move a “major mistake.”

In a written statement, Hezbollah claimed that the decision by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government would weaken Lebanon’s strength and its position in the face of Israeli aggression. The group argued that the decision contradicts the Taif Agreement, which commits the Lebanese government to take all necessary measures to liberate Lebanese territories from Israeli occupation and establish state sovereignty across all its lands.

Hezbollah’s Statement:
Hezbollah’s statement emphasized that protecting Lebanon’s strength and the weapons of the resistance (Hezbollah) are integral to the country’s power. The group also called for strengthening and arming the Lebanese army to expel Israel from Lebanese territories and protect the nation’s sovereignty.

Hezbollah accused the government’s decision of being a result of pressure from U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack, claiming it serves Israel’s interests and leaves Lebanon without a deterrent against Israeli aggression. The group described the decision as part of a “surrender strategy” that undermines Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Null and Void:
Hezbollah declared that it considers the decision “null and void” and expressed its readiness for dialogue on national security strategy. However, the group stressed that such discussions cannot take place while Israeli attacks continue.

Hezbollah also pointed out that the withdrawal of its ministers and those from the Amal Movement from the cabinet session was a clear rejection of the decision.

Government’s Decision:
During a cabinet meeting yesterday, the Lebanese government tasked the army with preparing a plan to collect weapons by the end of the year, as part of efforts to centralize arms under state control.
