Sharp Rise in Palestinian Deaths During Humanitarian Aid Distribution in Gaza

“Kokcha News Agency” – The UN Human Rights Office has revealed that at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed while attempting to receive humanitarian aid in Gaza over the past 80 days, from June 6 to August 22. This figure represents an increase of approximately 400 deaths compared to the previous report on August 10.

According to the UN, 994 of the victims were killed near centers operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation, which is supported by the US and Israel, while 766 others were killed along aid convoy routes. The UN emphasized that “the majority of these killings were carried out by the Israeli military.”

Simultaneously, Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency reported that on August 24 alone, at least 23 people were killed by Israeli gunfire, with 12 of them being in line to receive aid. The Israeli military has previously claimed that it fires warning shots at individuals it deems “a threat to soldiers.”

While Israeli officials have labeled Hamas-provided figures as “exaggerated,” no independent or alternative sources have provided a different death toll. A significant portion of the deaths have occurred around UN and other aid convoys, with the number of casualties nearly doubling in recent weeks.

A report by The Times of Israel suggests that the rise in casualties is linked to chaos surrounding aid convoys, which are often stopped by desperate and hungry civilians before reaching storage or distribution centers.

The UN Human Rights Office has warned that nearly 90% of its aid does not reach its intended destinations in Gaza, and experts affiliated with the organization have stressed that if this trend continues, widespread famine will occur in the region.
