Gaza Civil Defense: Residents Face Only the “Option of Death”

“Kokcha News Agency” – The Gaza Civil Defense has issued a dire warning about the situation in Gaza’s Zaytun neighborhood, where Israel’s military is using explosive robots to destroy homes, leaving rescue teams unable to reach the wounded. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense, described the events as a full-blown “genocide.”

Basal stated that Israeli occupation forces are blowing up homes in the neighborhood with explosive robots, and rescue teams are unable to access the wounded. He emphasized that Gaza residents have nowhere left to seek shelter, life in the city has become impossible, and the humanitarian conditions are catastrophic.

“The occupation forces are destroying Gaza, and we do not have the capacity to protect civilians,” Basal said.

He noted that approximately 50,000 people are trapped in Zaytun neighborhood, describing the situation in Gaza as extremely difficult and catastrophic, with basic living conditions completely eradicated.

Basal called on the international community to intervene urgently, stating that Gaza residents are now left with only the “option of death.”

Euro-Med Report on Zaytun Neighborhood
The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med) had previously reported that Israel’s six-day assault on Gaza’s Zaytun neighborhood had effectively leveled the area, destroying around 400 homes using remote-controlled explosives, airstrikes, and artillery fire.

Israel’s Decision to Occupy Gaza City
On August 8, Israel’s Security Cabinet approved a plan to occupy the northern Gaza Strip, including Gaza City.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with Fox News before the cabinet meeting, stated that Israel’s goal is to occupy the entire Gaza Strip.

However, reports in the media prior to the cabinet meeting indicated that the occupation would be carried out in stages. The initial phase would focus on Gaza City, with attacks later extending to Palestinian refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip.
