Kokcha News Agency – Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Russian officials to evaluate the outcomes of his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. The meeting at the Kremlin was attended by representatives of the Russian Presidency, government members, and the leadership of the State Duma, the lower house of parliament.
During the meeting, Putin emphasized that the Alaska visit was timely and productive. He stated, “We discussed nearly all areas of our interaction, but primarily focused on the possibility of a fair resolution to the Ukraine crisis. We also had the opportunity to talk about the roots and causes of the crisis. Eliminating the root causes should form the basis of any solution.”
Putin noted that direct negotiations at this level had not taken place in a long time and expressed respect for the U.S. administration’s approach to swiftly ending conflicts. He added, “We also want this and aim to move towards resolving all issues through peaceful means. The meeting was very open and comprehensive, and I believe it brings us closer to the necessary decisions.”
According to a report by The New York Times, Putin reportedly requested guarantees from Trump for the reinstatement of Russian as an official language in Ukraine and the security of Russian Orthodox Churches in the country.
The talks, which lasted approximately three hours, included a one-on-one meeting between the leaders in Trump’s private vehicle and a subsequent meeting with three participants from each side. Russian Vice President Yuri Ushakov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accompanied Putin, while Trump was joined by his Special Representative Steve Witkoff and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Following the meeting, Putin called for a new chapter in bilateral relations and invited Trump to Moscow. Trump, in a televised statement, acknowledged significant progress but noted that no formal agreement had been reached, saying, “From my perspective, there is no deal until there is a deal. But we’ve made a lot of progress.”
