Israel Accused of Destroying Islamic Heritage Sites in Jerusalem
The Jerusalem Governorate has accused Israel of conducting illegal excavations beneath Al-Aqsa Mosque, damaging Islamic artifacts and attempting to erase the site's historical identity.

Kokcha News Agency: The Jerusalem Governorate has issued a statement condemning Israel’s illegal excavations beneath Al-Aqsa Mosque, which have reportedly targeted and destroyed Islamic artifacts from the Umayyad period (661-750).
The Governorate emphasized that these actions are part of a deliberate attempt to distort the historical identity of the site and promote claims of a Jewish temple.
The statement warned that the mosque’s historical foundations are at risk and called on the international community, UNESCO, and the United Nations to intervene immediately to stop these violations.
In recent months, extremist Jewish groups, supported by far-right Israeli officials, have increased raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, with some calling for the construction of a Jewish temple in its place.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has openly expressed his desire to build a temple on the site, while far-right MP Zvi Sukkot has flaunted the Israeli flag within the mosque, claiming it as Israeli territory.
