Taliban Court Sentences Seven Individuals to Flogging for Extramarital Relations in Badakhshan
A Taliban court in Badakhshan province announced on Sunday that three women and four men were flogged for charges of extramarital relations. The individuals were sentenced to one to two and a half years in prison and 39 lashes each.
Kokcha News Agency – According to a statement from the Taliban court, the seven individuals were convicted based on a ruling by the primary court of Badakhshan province.
The sentences were carried out on Sunday, 9th Sunbula, after being confirmed by the head of the Taliban’s Supreme Court.
The punishment was administered in the presence of local Taliban officials in Badakhshan. Over the past four years, the Taliban has punished hundreds of individuals on various charges, often justifying physical punishments as part of the “implementation of Islamic Sharia law.”
In just the past week, the Taliban has flogged nearly 20 men and women across the country on similar charges.
