More Boats from Greece Join the Global Sumud Fleet

The number of boats from Greece joining the Global Sumud Fleet, which aims to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, is increasing.

CAIRO (Kokcha.News) — The number of boats from Greece joining the Global Sumud Fleet, which aims to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, is increasing. According to a statement from the March to Greece initiative, after the “Oksigono” and “Ilektra” ships set sail from the island of Syros on September 14, four more boats from Greece will join the fleet.

The statement noted that these new boats will depart from different ports in the coming days, with solidarity events and farewell ceremonies organized before their departure. It was also mentioned that 26 Greek and 20 international activists will be on board these boats, strengthening Greece’s presence in the fleet and making international solidarity with Gaza more visible.

The statement emphasized, “Each new ship brings breath to Gaza and hope to the world.”

The Global Sumud Fleet, formed with the support of around 50 countries to break Israel’s blockade and show solidarity with Palestine, set sail from Barcelona, Spain, on August 31. The boats from Spain began arriving in Tunisia on September 7.

The Global Sumud Fleet in Tunisia was targeted by drone attacks on the nights of September 8 and 9. In the past, Israel has intercepted individual boats attempting to reach Gaza, seizing the vessels and deporting activists. The Sumud Fleet is the largest flotilla to attempt to reach Gaza so far.

The term “Sumud,” which means “steadfastness” or “unwavering determination” in Arabic, became a concept of resistance and resilience among the Palestinian people after the 1967 Six-Day War. It represents the Palestinian people’s commitment to remain on their land, preserve their identity and culture, and build alternative institutions through non-violent civil disobedience. In Palestine, the olive tree and a pregnant peasant woman are used to depict this concept.
