89% of Gaza’s Agricultural Infrastructure Damaged in Israeli Attacks
Israeli military operations have devastated Gaza’s agricultural sector, with up to 89% of farming infrastructure destroyed or severely damaged, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
Kokcha News Agency – United Nations Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq confirmed in a daily press briefing that Israeli attacks have extensively damaged agricultural land and contaminated soil across Gaza. Only 13% of cultivated areas in the Gaza Strip remain intact, with most inaccessible due to Israeli military operations.
According to a recent geospatial analysis by the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT), 79–89% of Gaza’s agricultural infrastructure—including orchards and vital olive groves—has been damaged or completely destroyed. The World Food Programme (WFP) is working to strengthen aid distribution by clearing key roads and tripling its storage capacity within Gaza.
Despite these efforts, humanitarian access remains severely constrained. Although the UN and its partners have moved over 37,000 tons of aid—mostly food—through border crossings this week, access is still limited to only two gates. Haq emphasized that there is no direct access to northern Gaza from Israel or to southern Gaza from Egypt.
With winter approaching, hundreds of thousands of families remain exposed to harsh weather without adequate shelter. The UN stated that if access restrictions are lifted, it has sufficient supplies to meet most needs for approximately 1.5 million Palestinians.
