Experts Warn Against Hot Showers After Flights

Taking a hot shower after a long flight is a common practice among travelers, but experts warn that this habit could lead to health issues, including skin dryness and circulation problems.

Kokcha News Agency – After a long flight, many travelers look forward to a hot shower to relax. However, experts are warning that this seemingly harmless habit could have negative effects on your health.

The low humidity inside airplane cabins can cause skin to dry out, and taking a hot shower after a flight can exacerbate this dryness by stripping the skin of its natural oils. According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, “When we get off the plane, our skin is already dehydrated. Hot water makes this dryness worse and disrupts the skin’s natural protective barrier.”

Circulation Concerns
Andy Ellis, a health expert, also highlighted that high temperatures from hot showers can negatively affect blood circulation. “Hot showers cause blood vessels to dilate, which can increase swelling that occurs during flights and lead to circulation problems,” Ellis warned. He recommended that travelers opt for cool or lukewarm showers instead of hot ones after flying.

Avoid Crossing Legs on Flights
Physiotherapist Bethany Tomlinson pointed out another common mistake travelers make during flights: crossing their legs. “Crossing your legs on a plane can restrict blood flow and increase the risk of vein blockages,” Tomlinson said.

For a healthier sitting position, she advised passengers to slightly elevate their legs, keep their shoulders relaxed, and lean back in their seats.
