Google to Build Its Largest AI Center Outside the U.S. in India

Kokcha News Agency – Google has unveiled plans to invest $15 billion in India over the next five years, with a significant portion of the funds allocated to building its largest AI center outside the United States. The center will be located in Visakhapatnam, a port city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports from NDTV, the AI center will feature a massive infrastructure with 1 gigawatt of energy capacity, designed to support high-performance computing for advanced AI systems, including large language models. The facility will integrate AI infrastructure with large-scale energy resources and expanded fiber optic networks to ensure uninterrupted operations and faster data transfer speeds.

During an event in New Delhi, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian emphasized that the center will be the company’s largest AI hub outside the U.S. Kurian also highlighted that the $15 billion investment marks Google’s largest commitment in India to date.

India Becomes a New Battleground for Tech Giants
Google’s investment comes at a time when global tech companies are rapidly expanding their data center infrastructure to meet the growing demand for AI services. In recent years, Microsoft and Amazon have also invested billions of dollars in data centers in India.

Sam Altman, CEO of U.S.-based AI company OpenAI, noted that the use of ChatGPT in India has quadrupled over the past year. He announced plans to open an office in India before the end of the year.

Experts believe these developments underscore India’s emergence as a key player in the global AI race, thanks to its vast user base and rapidly evolving digital infrastructure.
