Apple Invests $500 Million in Rare Earth Magnets to Expand U.S. Supply Chain

Apple has announced a $500 million investment in rare earth magnets as part of its efforts to expand its U.S. supply chain, partnering with MP Materials to develop advanced recycling technologies and boost domestic production.

Kokcha News Agency – Apple has committed to a $500 million investment in rare earth magnets as part of its strategy to strengthen its U.S. supply chain. The tech giant has entered into a multi-year agreement with MP Materials, an integrated rare earth producer, to purchase U.S.-made rare earth magnets from its facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

As part of the partnership, Apple and MP Materials will establish an advanced rare earth recycling line in California, focusing on developing new materials and innovative processing technologies to enhance magnet performance.

This investment is part of Apple’s broader pledge to spend over $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years, reflecting the company’s long-term commitment to American innovation, advanced manufacturing, and next-generation recycling technologies.

Apple has been a pioneer in using recycled rare earth elements in consumer electronics, with nearly all magnets in its devices now made from 100% recycled rare earth materials. The collaboration with MP Materials is expected to secure the domestic supply of these critical materials, reducing reliance on foreign sources.

Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the importance of American innovation in the company’s operations, stating, “American innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and we are proud to deepen our investments in the U.S. economy.”

Cook highlighted the significance of rare earth materials in advanced technology production and expressed confidence that the partnership with MP Materials would strengthen the domestic supply of these essential resources.
